Session Descriptor: To be successful, our students must understand complex texts, engage deeply with content-area concepts, and participate in academic discussions. To that end, this session will give participants an opportunity to explore technology resources that will positively impact vocabulary instruction . Participants will engage in activities designed for improving student vocabulary skills which are content and grade level specific. Walk away from this session with tools that can be implemented immediately in any content area.

Objectives:
The Learner will:
* Become familiar with Marzano's Six Steps to Effective Vocabulary Instruction.
* Identify and become familiar with the Tennessee State Academic Vocabulary List for each individually assigned grade level.
* Learn how to use various technology resources to assist students with mastery of content specific vocabulary terms.
Success Criteria:
The Participant will:
* Explore Marzano's Six Steps to Effective Vocabulary Instruction and be able to identify specific activities that relate to each step.
* Display the ability to create QR codes.
* Be able to identify the grade level specific Tennessee Academic Vocabulary List.
* Model at least three strategies which will assist with student mastery of academic vocabulary.

Did your knowledge of any of the words change after you found the meaning?

Now is your turn to create a QR Code!
- Choose 2 words from the TN Academic Vocabulary List that are specific to your content area.
- Find video clips or articles describing your word and create a QR Code for that word using QR Code Generator.
- Now open up a word processing program such as Office 365, Word, or Notepad and type the word and paste the QR Code underneath. Repeat with the second word.
